2016 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Facility is a hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility that receives various wastes from numerous generators. Regulatory limits are met prior to land disposing.

2015 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Treatment and disposal facility. Chemicals received are discarded from generators. Applicable regulatory limits are met prior to land disposing.

2015 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Facility is a landfill. Regulatory standards are met prior to land disposal. The concentrations received are the concentrations placed in the landfill.

2014
Other Environmental Practices: Source Reduction - Facility is a hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility that receives various wastes from numerous generators. Treatment technologies include microencapsulation, stabilization, chemical oxidation, deactivation, solidification, etc. Air pollution control equipment is used onsite to minimize exposure to air. These include regenerative thermal oxidizers (destroys VOCs), scrubber (neutralizes acid), baghouse (collects particulates), etc. Source reduction and waste minimization is part of a hazardous waste TSDF business plan. Facility waste minimization plan is reviewed annually.

Other Environmental Practices: Waste Treatment - All waste meets appropriate land disposal restriction prior to landfill. Alternative treatment standards result in decreased treatment efficiency.

2013 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Facility is a hazardous waste treatment storage and disposal company receiving various waste from numerous generators. Treatment includes: microencapsulation, stabiliization, solidiifcation, chemical oxidation, etc. Air pollution control equipment includes: regenerative thermal oxidizer (destroys VOCs), scrubber (neutralizes acids), baghouse (collects particulate with metals), etc. Source reductions and waste minimization is not part of a hazardous waste TSDF business plan. Facility waste minimization plan is reviewed annually.

2013 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Hazardous Waste Storage, Treatment & Disposal Facility. Source Reduction is not part of the business model of a TSDF. Waste is shipped from off-site generators. Unable to predict the waste that will be received year by year. Characteristic waste is de-characterized & made less hazardous. The air pollution control device, regenerative thermal oxidizer, destroys VOCs. Baghouse collects particulate. Scrubber neutralizes acids.Hazardous Waste Minimization Plan is updated annually.

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
