CALC | Calculation Methods, e.g., Emission Factors | In 2021 fugitive ethylene oxide emissions sampling was conducted within the facility utilizing Summa cannisters placed by a third party consultant in strategic locations for the purpose of estimating fugitive emissions. The results of this sampling were utilized in the calculation of fugitive ethylene oxide emissions for the 2020 TRI Form R reporting year. The results were provided in the form lbs/hr, and used to calculate estimated total fugitive emissions annually. This annual fugitive emissions estimate for ethylene oxide was then compared to the total amount of palletized product sterilized annually to obtain an emissions factor for ethylene oxide fugitive emissions as a function of total palletized product sterilized. This factor was applied to the total product that was sterilized for 2020 to obtain the ethylene oxide fugitive emissions for this period. The 2019 ethylene oxide fugitive emissions estimate was based on an estimate of the amount of ethylene oxide that would off-gas from the volume of one pallet of product times the volume of all product sterilized. |
