Under the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990 (PPA), TRI collects information to track industry progress in reducing waste generation and moving towards safer waste management alternatives. Measures that facilities have taken to prevent pollution and reduce the amount of toxic chemicals entering the environment are shown in the table below. Although factors other than these reported practices contribute to year-to-year changes in releases, results are sorted by largest reduction in order to facilitate identification of pollution prevention successes. Lead compounds 334419: Other Electronic Component Manufacturing 2017 90,421.00 89,259.00 -1.29 Source Reduction: W83: Modified packaging[-5-14%] - CTS converted our 2nd supplier of lead oxide to a stainless steel Intermediate Bulk Container integrated transportation, storage and dispensing system. The new integrated system substantially reduces product loss from transfer operations in production as we use a self-contained gravity feed system. This has eliminated a plethora or equipment such as roots blowers, roots vacuum pumps, exhaust fans, multiple SS tubes and hose, air pallet enclosures, cyclone, baghouse dust collector, secondary filtration systems and controlled exhaust points etc. The pneumatic system was inefficient at conveying lead oxide. By converting to a gravity feed system we have eliminated numerous spills, leaks, equipment downtime and raw material losses to spills, leaks and the ventilation system. More raw material is converted to product, less waste and wastewater is produced, and the security of the material in transport is enhanced with the new shipping containers.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Dispensing valves on Intermediate Bulk Containers of lead oxide were not 100% leak tight. Small quantities of lead oxide could leak by some valves during IBC transfer operations, specifically when a tote was set down on the ground. To rectify, secondary containment aluminum blind flanges with EPDM gaskets were fabricated and bolted to all lead oxide IBC's on the dispensing flange. This eliminated any product leakage by the valve for all totes in transit and storage. The only time the flange is removed is when the IBC is placed in a dispensing rack in the production area.

Lead compounds 334419: Other Electronic Component Manufacturing 2016 69,832.00 90,421.00 29.48 Source Reduction: W58: Other process modifications[-25-49%] - Modified a ceramic cutting process that increased the yield of usable parts by 36%. This also reduced the amount of ceramic kerf going through wastewater treatment and hazardous waste disposal.
Source Reduction: W71: Other cleaning and degreasing modifications[-5-14%] - Added a ceramic wafer cleaning step to reduce contamination and improve metalized wafer yields by 60% on one high volume product line.

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04 : PARTICIPATIVE TEAM MANAGEMENT - Lean manufacturing team meetingMethods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06 : EMPLOYEE RECOMMENDATION (UNDER A FORMAL COMPANY PROGRAM) - Continuous Process Improvement - Lean manufacturing.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - We continue to look for a recycling option for some of our clean lead ceramic waste but have not found a vendor who can recover the metal constituents.
