Column Name: TOTAL_TRANSFER

Description: The total estimate of a chemical transferred off-site. Transfer amounts are reported in grams for Dioxin and Dioxin like compounds and in pounds for all other chemicals. If any transfer that is part of this total was reported as a range estimate, the mid-point of the range was used as the transfer amount. This total consists of the sum of the following:

Total Offsite Release
Total Offsite Recycling
Total Offsite Recovery
Total Offsite Treatment
M91 - Transfer to Waste Broker

Description: The total amount (in pounds) of the toxic chemical transferred from the facility to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) or to an off-site location (non-POTW) during the calendar year (January 1 - December 31). POTW refers to a municipal sewage treatment plant. The most common transfers will be conveyances of the toxic chemical in facility wastewater through underground sewage pipes, however, trucked or other direct shipments to a POTW are also included in this estimate.

The quantities transferred to a non-POTW facility are reported separately by the different types of waste management the toxic chemical undergoes at the off-site facility. For transfers less than 1,000 pounds, the code that corresponds to the amount of toxic chemical released annually by the reporting facility, reported as a range. When a facility uses a range code, the amount reported to TRI is the midpoint of the range. On Form R, letter codes are used to represent ranges: A = 1-10 pounds, B = 11-499 pounds, and C = 500-999 pounds. The letters are converted to numbers for storage in the TRIS database where '1' represents range 'A', '3' represents range 'B', and '4' represents range 'C'. The historical value '2' = 1-499 pounds.
