Note that beginning with the 2006 reporting year, the industry classification code is the 2002 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which has replaced the 1997 US Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code. The primary NAICS code, as reported by the facility, is now used for analysis purposes for all reporting years 2006 and later. For reporting years prior to 2006, EPA has assigned a primary NAICS code based on the SIC codes as reported for those years for the purposes of analyzing trends.
Manufacturing Industries: Forms are included in the manufacturing industry categories if the form listed a NAICS code in 31-33. Also included are certain NAICS codes in 511 (under publishing) and 113 (under food).
Coal Mining: Forms listing NAICS code 212111, 212112 or 212113 are included in this category. However, if the facility reported in a year prior to 1998 and the form has an industry code equivalent to a manufacturing NAICS code, then the form is included in the manufacturing industry category and not in this industry category for that year.
Metal Mining: Forms listing NAICS code 212221, 212222, 212231, 212234 or 212299 are included in this category. However, if the facility reported in a year prior to 1998 and the form has an industry code equivalent to a manufacturing NAICS code, then the form is included in the manufacturing industry category and not in this industry category for that year.
Electric Utilities: Forms listing NAICS codes 221111, 221112, 221113, 221119, 221121 or 221122 are included in this category. However, if the facility reported in a year prior to 1998 and the form has an industry code equivalent to a manufacturing NAICS code, then the form is included in the manufacturing industry category and not in this industry category for that year.
Chemical Wholesaler Distributors: Forms listing NAICS code 424690, 425110 or 425120 are included in this category. However, if the facility reported in a year prior to 1998 and the form has an industry code equivalent to a manufacturing NAICS code, then the form is included in the manufacturing industry category and not in this industry category for that year.
Petroleum Bulk Terminals/Bulk Storage: Forms listing NAICS code 424710 are included in this category.
