PROD | Changes in Production Levels | US Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma was not aware that undamaged and intact sealed lead acid batteries qualified for the Articles Exemption and has decided to exercise this exemption. In previous years RY15 - Ry18, these batteries were reported and are from the large quantities of computer and electronic battery backup systems on this training facility all for these batteries are sent off to qualified recycling centers/facilities. The Small Arms Firing Range where the Lead flakes are contaminating the Frangible Bullet Fragments, via the Lead caked bullet decelerators are scheduled for removal in a upcoming construction/renovation project in late Summer/Fall 2020 at the range. Once all of the bullet decelerators are replaced the Lead flake contamination should be dramatically reduced. |
PRAI | Production or Activity Variable | US Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma, CA shows an increase in Lead being shipped off to a permitted landfill in Beatty Nevada. This facility has several apprenticeship training schools and one (1) of them is the Electronics Technician School. This school has a electronic circuit board soldering lab where the students are required to use lead solder to join the parts together. There is a waste generated from this lab in the form of lead solder wire bits and pieces, lead contaminated wipes, discarded circuit boards and empty spools and containers. The other Lead contaminated waste is from spent frangible bullet waste from our Small Arms Firing Range. The lead is flaking off from the interior of the bullet decelerators and collecting in the fragment buckets, along with the Copper, Tin and Cast Iron fragments. |
